I had my first day on the long-term job today. The teacher told me I might regret not taking the entire 8-10 weeks and I already do. It's Kindergarten and it was a ton of fun. Maybe after being there for 2 weeks, I won't find it fun anymore but we'll see. I had decided last year I think that I didn't like kindergarten anymore. This class is an exception. But then again, the teacher has been teaching for MANY years and said this is her best class. The requirements for kindergarten now are RIDICULOUS! They test them the second week of school to see if they can read a sentence yet. How crazy is that? My parents were afraid, with me being so young, that I wouldn't be ready for 1st grade and almost held me back. I bet with these new requirements, I would have definitely been held back. I turned out just fine and all but it's crazy. AND the number of kids that DO get held back is crazy. I want to say an average of 3 per class at this school. There are 7 kindergarten classes at this school, so that's over a whole class worth (the county says kindergartens can have no more than 15, I believe).

Heather has not been on at all and blogging but I have a message for whenever she does come on. Heather: I talked to my neighbor Jamie (who you may notice I talk about in my blog a lot) and told her about the camp you work at. She wanted to know when in the summer it is. She is free July 11 through all of August and wanted to know if you needed help. And if she does it, I may too. I may no matter what, depending on what it would be doing. Jamie worked this past summer at a camp for pretty severely learning disabled kids and is planning on working at another one this summer in Minnesota but I guess she will be done around July 11th. So let me know any info...and is there a website of the camp?

So, I will be babysitting my brother this weekend. I will not be blogging after this unless there is something super important I feel the need to blog about tonight. I am leaving straight from school to drive to PA. My dad will be in midday Sunday so I may blog Sunday. Enjoy your weekends, ladies!

Cari's says I'm the mean daughter but I say she's the mean sister. She decided to paint this tin. "May I use your paint and glitter?" "May I sit in your chair?" I think she needs her own art supplies. She even was about to start using this paint brush without asking. The paint brush is not for paint--it's for making candy molds! She didn't look at the package...aaaaaaahhhhhhh

I am bored, since we have no school. I am taking quizzes today. So far, I am 25% gay, somesort of internet children finder (it's a good thing, sicko), and have an IQ of 179. I am damn excited about that last one.

Stop the madness! Anyway, I just saw one of those Geico commercials. It is freakin hilarious. It's the soap opera one, where the girl is upset and the guy is trying to reassure her. He says "but I've got good news" and she's like "You're leaving (so-and-so)?" and he says "No, I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance". I love those commercials, though I don't love the one Amy was talking about in her blog...

There was a 14 year old girl killed this weekend in DC. She witnessed a crime (murder, perhaps) in her apartment building. She talked to the police on Saturday, I believe, and they said she told them no information. She refused to have police escorts. She was shot 7 or 8 times. How sad this world has become, shooting children for witnessing a crime.

watched the disappointing match Andy lost today. He had a bunch of calls that were wrong. He even said to the chair ump after one, "You're supposed to see things for a living". It was quite humorous.

I can't grasp the fact that Andy Roddick lost in the Australian Open today. Now my final 2 picks are both gone. Wil Wheaton's blog is quite humorous today, not that it isn't funny most of the time. He put up an auction on Ebay for a poster he found in his closet. The description he wrote is the funniest part...

OK, I love snow. The one thing I hate is we have the best sledding hill around. Everyone feels they can use our yard to go sledding in. Why do people not respect property boundaries? Mom and I were sitting at the kitchen table playing canasta and this group of like 9 people came from the parking lot at the pool and walked up to the top of our yard and proceeded to sled down. THERE WERE PARENTS THERE! The father even saw my mom in the window and waved! THE NERVE. My mom gave him a dirty look. We used to go outside and tell people it is private property but my mom is tired of that. People constantly in the summer walk through our yard to get to the pool cuz they are too lazy to walk up the street and over that way. We even have a family down the street that NEVER puts their dog on a leash and the dog goes to the bathroom in people's yards and walks through flowers, including walking practically up to the front door of the house! Do people nowadays believe they can do whatever they want?

Speaking about this makes me remember someone who wrote in to Dear Abby, I think it was. The lady said she and her husband spent time and money making their yard look nice. They invested in a pond with fish and waterfall. They used to have people just come in their yard to watch it. They built a fence and actually saw neighbors CLIMB OVER THE FENCE! The owner went out with her coffee one morning and found her neighbor sitting with her coffee in the owner's lawn chair! People are so rude...

PS, on a lighter note, mom and I watched Strong Medicine, which we taped last night. Grant Show was on. I swear he hasn't aged a day since Melrose Place. So gorgeous...did I ever tell you all about the girl I worked with at summer camp who spent the night at his house? She and her friends were in LA for spring break and they met him and that guy who played Carlton on Fresh Prince in a club and Grant invited them to stay at his house so no one had to be a DD!!! I was so jealous!

We were just in the car coming back from breakfast with our dad and DC101 played two songs back to back that are my favorite videos--Beastie Boys "Sabotage" and Nirvana "In Bloom". I haven't heard those songs in years on the radio and they were played back to back! Awesome!

My cake looks amazing! It is strawberry cake and strawberry whipped icing. It is four layers. There is strawberry jam between each layer and a layer of strawberries in the middle layer. The icing is only on the outside. The top is covered in well-placed strawberries. Perfection...now comes time to destroy it...

I felt like cooking today so first I made lollypops. I found a recipe using Jello on The Food Network's website. They are strawberry kiwi and yummy, but I just wish they weren't so flat. I also baked a cake and am waiting for it to cool to ice it. Yay me!

so, Bette was fabulous. The crowd was basically made up of middle aged and older husbands and wives and middle aged gay men. No surprise. Bette even joked about it--she mentioned places that people there would be from, including Manassas "with your mullets" (I never thought of Manassas as country) and "Bouffant Circle--I mean Dupont Circle". She made fun of the president many times, including about the state of the union address. She also commented on the fact that the last time she toured, Bush was president, something else and Joe Gibbs was coaching the Redskins (YAY GIBBS IS BACK!). She said Bush is happy Kerry won in Iowa because now he thinks he "has a chance to win the election the old fashioned way--with votes". She cussed like a sailor. She cracked so many jokes it was great. A funny one went something like "My friend and i were walking our dogs and wanted to go in a bar. She decided we should just walk in with them. She walked into the bar and the bouncer stopped her and said her dog was not allowed. She said he was a seeing eye dog and yes they use Doberman Pinschers now. I walked into the bar and the bouncer stopped me and said my dog could not come in. I said he was my seeing eye dog and he asked if they were using Chihuahuas now. I said 'They gave me a fucking Chihuahua?!'"

I, being the OVERLY SENSITIVE ONE, freakin' cried when Bette sang "From A Distance". I LOVE that song. I remember singing it in elementary school and signing some of the words in our performance.

Penn State women's bball KILLED #10 Minnesota, 78-59. It was tied at 34 at halftime. Kelly Mazzante is now the Big Ten's leading bball scorer of all men and women. I think it is pretty damn exciting...pisses me off that the ESPN News channel rarely talks about women's bball. They flashed the final score for a few seconds but said nothing about Kelly. ESPN itself usually says things like leading scorers...and I am sure there will be an article in the Post tomorrow though...yay Kelly!

SHOULD I CHANGE MY COLOR SCHEME?

So I am having a little freak-out attack right now. Here's the story: I woke up this morning at about 9 and went to the bathroom. The light would not turn on. I checked other lights upstairs and they were all fine. I went downstairs to check the fuse box and the hall light downstairs was out. I heard the cat meowing and realized she was locked in the laundry room. I let her out and tried to turn on the light there but it was out. So I got a flashlight and went back to the laundry room to check the fuse box. I couldn't see any fuse wrong so I called my mom and left a message. She called a while later. She said she blew the bulb in the hallway downstairs this morning and maybe that blew the fuse. She said she said bye to the cat upstairs so she had not locked the cat up. I had heard Cari up around 7:15 and so I figured she couldn't turn on the bathroom light and probably went downstairs and accidentally locked the cat up. Cari just woke up and said when she was up this morning earlier, the bathroom light worked fine. She went back in her room and the cat followed her in there. The cat left her room a little while later and she closed her door. She never went downstairs.

So, my dilemna is how did the cat get locked up? And, if my mom blowing the bulb downstairs did not blow the fuse, how did the fuse blow? This is very scary. It feels like there had to be someone in this house...scary...

I got to talk to Jamie on IM today! Woohoo! It feels like she is just at College Park. She unfortunately is living with 4 other girls all from Maryland! She wanted to get to room with people not from the state...maybe from across the country, since she doesn't know Italian. And she had such roommate troubles this past semester I sure hope these girls are good to my Jamie! She does have her own bathroom--it doesn't have a sink but the other girls all share a big bathroom so she doesn't care--she'll use the bathtub.

I am so excited that there are tennis matches on! The new season has begun! Even though it hasn't begun well for some. Mardy Fish lost yesterday (well, in Australian time, but it was Monday), as did Tommy Robredo, who Jamie loves. Andy Roddick, Robby Ginepri, Andre Agassi, and Marat Safin all had fairly easy match wins. Poor Younes El Aynaoui had to stop during play and pull out. Apparently it is so hot down there right now and that affects the surface of the court that a lot of guys have won by default, including the US's Taylor Dent and Jan-Michael Gambill. Wow, so many hot tennis players...lol...too bad I can't have "Go Fish" as my away message for this tournament anymore...

So I went with Jamie and her mom to take Jamie to the airport...so sad...Miss ya already Jamie!

I found this website that you can make AIM icons and AIM expressions! I got a little obsessed yesterday and made 6 expressions. I now have Matt Morris as mine and I made an Orlando Bloom one that Cari is using. I also made 2 Tony ones (of course), a tennis one and something else I forget. I felt special, even though it was super easy and any idiot could do it :)

I feel so unloved since I haven't had a comment since Monday...*tear*

Just got home from seeing Win A Date With Tad Hamilton with Jamie and Cari. We were excited about the "sneak preview" today, since it officially comes out Friday and Jamie wanted to see it and she leaves tomorrow. It was a cute predictable romantic comedy. I enjoyed it. I cried...of course. Topher Grace was so great! He is so funny and hot. AND he wore glasses! He looked hotter than normal in his glasses :)

Kelly Mazzante, Penn State women's basketball player, became the Big Ten Conference's leading female scorer today. She has 20 more points to go until she becomes the Big Ten's leading scorer, beating a guy. That's pretty darn exciting...and yet today's game was not on TV. argh.

So, Jamie leaves tomorrow as I said. I am so sad! We have been spending so much time with her lately that it will feel so weird not to be able to just go over next door. I mean I can but she won't be there. It's only 4 months...it's only 4 months...

I am still contemplating changing the color of my blog. I am debating between pink and lime green (my mom has a folder with those colors and I love it) or reddish purple and light green, which are the colors my future bathroom will be when I move out. I came to the bathroom conclusion when my sister's and my poufs were hanging in the shower and mine was purple-y and hers was light green. I loved the way they went together. So I had to go to a paint store and get those paper things with the colors so I know for the future, since we threw out those old poufs. And I colored a checkerboard pattern on a piece of paper so I will know. heehee

although, my tony and jc picture has an orange tint to it so i wonder how it would look on the page with different colors...too bad i got rid of my favorite picture i have of tony...

I AM SO BORED

I have had ONE job this 2004 so far. I have a few others planned for Feb and March, along with one day next week. I like this time to read, which I do so rarely, but I am really starting to get tired of it.

Jamie leaves Monday. She is having her going away party thing now. We made a cake and I made chicken fingers. I went over and sat around for like 2 hours and felt soooo out of place. Everyone there was either an adult (you know, like parents) or Jamie's age, which is 4 years younger than me. Cari is seeing Linkin Park, or else I would have someone closer to my age. Jamie's brother was supposed to come (he may be there now) and he is my age but have I talked to him since like sophomore year of high school?

I want to have my own party. I miss having tons of friends in the dorm who would just all congregate in a room together. I want to cook for a bunch of people and make drinks...well, just have alcohol so everyone can make their own drinks. It would be such a grownup party. I got the Rachael Ray Get Togethers book from Jodi for Xmas and it makes me want a party even more...

Speaking of "X" (well, not really, but when I wrote "Xmas", it made me think of Christina Aguilera, who Cari exclusively calls "The X"), I was readin Cari's old issues of EW. They were annoucing upcoming shows on TV and wrote "It's Good To Be: Christina Aguilera. You know, I sort of doubt that's the case." It was really funny...

I just looked at Wil Wheaton's blog. He is freakin' hilarious. Read his blog from today titled "love plus one", about his hair. heehee

So, it is not a new conclusion but i thought i would put it down on paper, er, computer. Men are hot in glasses. I just checked "my pictures" on this computer and Tony (as seen in the new picture I figured out how to put up on my blog) is the only one I have pics of with glasses on. That frustrates me, because I have seen so many hot men with glasses and I don't have their pictures. Michael Dietz (who used to be on Port Charles) was on CSI tonight and I remembered seeing him in a recent Soap magazine with glasses on. I know I have seen Matthew McConaughey, Brad Pitt, Trevor and Eric (of the now-defunct O-Town), Mark-Paul Gosselar, Joey Fatone, and Ryan Phillippe, among others, in glasses and they all looked hot. I guess glasses are my "thing". And I believe it started when I was in eighth grade...

ok, so Matt Morris may not be the handsomest man in the world, but seriously, the more I look at his pictures, the more attractive he becomes. Jodi doesn't think he is hot. I don't care. He has this look that just makes him seem so real. His online journal just proves how well-spoken he is. He just floors me every time I read something he wrote. I can't wait for the new album. He is documenting the whole process of making it by writing in the journal a lot and posting pictures.

I just read Matt Morris' journal. He witnessed a rally on his way to Texas (to record for a new album). Apparently, it was a bunch of people from some church who were opposed to some group. This picture is the worst, I think, because these parents actually have their kids believe shit they push on them. Parents make me mad.

Just got home from celebrating Jamie's bday. We went to Frederick. She was hoping she would get free drinks from bartenders. she got...none. That sucked. We went to Old Towne, Bushwallers, and Brewer's Alley. Laura joined us! Quite a time. We went back to Laura's place after to see it...cute apt. Too bad she and her roomie are having their differences...I saw it from the beginning (well, when I met her last year).

U2 came on in B.A., so we HAD to call Parsons. She got back at school yesterday. Sucks I didn't get to see her this break...but she wants to come down to Frederick for her spring break so that would be fun! You all should join us down here! We think we may have our own Pub Crawl.

Speaking of Hood (well, indirectly), found out tonight what jerks those Hood boys are. I knew Torrey was pissed she couldn't make the boys sing by flashing her ring, but I didn't know the boys would actually say "suck my dick" when asked to sing. What jerks. And, did you know some guy in Memorial put a stripper pole in his room? I had heard that, but Laura said he went so far as to cut a hole in the ceiling. He better get fined for that shit or I will be pissed (not that I would find out but still...Heather had to pay for shit they never even did!). We also talked about Evil Devil Midget, Gina, Khalid (sp?), and the Italian boys tonight. Good times...

Happy Jamie Birthday! She is 21 today...I can't believe it. Seems like she was just 4 and they moved in next door. I still remember the first interaction we had with them, when there were things growing in a bush by their mailbox and they asked us if we had them too. We had such good times as children, and have had such good times again starting last summer (the three of us--Jamie, Cari and I). I will miss her immensely when she leaves for Italy next Monday.

So I get these emails from a group about supporting abortion rights. I think I got signed up through Jamie somehow...but I could be wrong. Well, today I got an email from the American Family Association. They were encouraging me to write a letter to president Bush to show support for changing the laws of marriage to be between a man and a woman. I sure hope whoever sent that to me found me randomly and I am not going to receive those emails in the future. It really pissed me off, since it was talking like I already felt like I should support them.

So, I clicked on the link to their website and there was an article bashing Dean about how he supports gay rights. That article really pissed me off. So, yet again, I start a day pissed off...

I just went to the Hood website. I can't get over how weird it is to see so many pictures of boys and references to boy sports on the thing. It's kind of upsetting.

It's also ANNOYING that Hood keeps hiring new education professors every year since I left. There were a few I hated when I was there and I wish I was there now with these new ones. My freakin' advisor was the worst..."you should have gotten an A" about the class I had with him. I got a B. Well, sorry, buddy, is that a way to talk to an advisee? That pissed me off so much I never wanted to see him again. The only times I had to after that were when registering for classes.

I had a math professor who did the same shit. She passed back a test and gave me a look like she was disappointed. And, after class, before everyone was gone, she said something to me about how I should have gotten a better grade. Oh, sorry! I didn't get an A once in that freakin' easy class!

I so don't miss college...can you tell?

SO I just went to breakfast with my dad at Cracker Barrel in Frederick (our freakin' county doesn't have any!). I was almost killed twice by this women (in a HUGE truck) in the parking lot. She was driving super fast and was talking on what looked to be a walkie talkie or those Nextel paging type-of-things. She cut me off near the entrance b/c she entered a different way, then cut me off on the other side of the restaurant when I was trying to pull in a space. She proceeded to go back to the first side we were on to park and was walking up to the door when I was. I gave her an evil look, but she wasn't looking at me. She was still talking into the thing and she met up with a friend outside. I went in and told my dad and while waiting the few seconds before getting seated, she walked up talking to her friend and I said something to my dad about it loud. She didn't look at me. She walked by our table to be seated and I think she looked at me. She had this ugly long furry coat on and it was open and it reminded me of someone else, maybe on TV, that I don't like. She looked trashy. Probably a freakin' redneck...So, two days in a row my day started out bad. But, yesterday, it didn't turn out to be a bad day so hopefully today won't either.

Oh, yeah. So, my alarm woke me up this morning from this strange dream. I was getting together with the people I graduated high school with and we were lining up for some reason. I got there a little late (which means this isn't ever gonna happen cuz how often am I late?) and I didn't know in what order we were lining up in. I thought it had to do with what college we graduated from but no one would tell me. Then Hillary Clinton came out and I asked her where to get in line and she got mad at me. So I stood there and something happened that I forget and she made a comment about me to everyone and I complained that I didn't know where I was supposed to be in line and she asked the other people "How old do you think Marianne is acting?" And she called on this girl Jessica I graduated with and she said "6", and Hillary proceeded to call on about 5 other people that all said I was acting 6. Then I woke up...so, what does this dream mean?

I enjoy being able to listen to the Penn State women's basketball games on the internet but tonight, I was able to watch it on the internet! Quite exciting. I don't understand why we can never get any of the games on TV down here. Even the games when we were playing ranked opponents (and, Penn State OBVIOUSLY is ranked as well *wink*) have not been on TV down here. Who wants to watch Maryland women bball? They suck! I don't care if they are local...I'd like to view some GOOD basketball.

Speaking of bball, so excited Penn State's men's bball team won a game last night! They have already matched their number of wins for the last two seasons so this is very exciting! Oh, and Maryland men kicked some serious butt Tuesday night, though they played UM-Eastern Shore, which is winless, but still!

I like my new fonts. I can't figure out how to change my comments page though...it is confusing. Also, the white stripe near the top of my page is driving me nuts and I can't figure out how to get it orange...oh well...I want to change my colors but I like these colors so I want it to change daily...wouldn't that be cool? Monday purple, Tuesday blue...lol

Found out Tony plays guitar (12 string, I believe) on one song on Joe Firstman's album. Joe thanks Tony in his list of people he thanks. Oh, also about Tony, on the DVD for the Kevin Costner movie "Open Range", Tony has a song from his new album playing on the special features page. How cool is that? He is really coming up in the world. I would like to see the page so I can hear the song (I haven't heard the song before--his CD will come out about March) but I refuse to rent the movie just for that, since I have no desire to watch it...so, if anyone sees it and looks on the special features screen, let me know how the song is!

I went a little CD crazy yesterday...and, Amy, all I bought were male singers! I got Jack Johnson, Joe Firstman, Gavin DeGraw, Howie Day, and Matt Nathanson. Joe is a friend of Tony's and they have performed together. A lot of people on the Tony message boards talk about him so I decided to finally test him out. Gavin DeGraw sings the theme song for "One Tree Hill" (which is new tonight!!!). I love the Gavin CD. I like the Joe, Jack and Howie CD's. I have not listened to Matt yet. He apparently sang a song on the "American Wedding" soundtrack, which I have so I guess I have heard him:) I really want the Maroon 5 CD. When I was searching the others yesterday on Amazon, Maroon 5 came up as being recommended but at the time, I didn't remember any of their songs. Jamie reminded me what song I know of theirs and I love the song! Oh well...maybe I will get the CD sometime:) I have way too many CD's and they are not organized well at all...

Question, when you get an annulment of your marriage, what do you call the other person? Can you call him your ex? Just wondering, in the case of Britney Spears...

Mom and I went to PSU yesterday to see some basketball. What exciting games we saw! The men played Bucknell yesterday and it was so good to see a good Penn State men's team! They have a new coach this year and have 6 wins thus far. The last 2 years, they had 7 total wins each season! The game was 58-46, which is pretty low scoring. We had these great seats and it was so funny seeing the guys--we have 2 freshmen that start and are 6'0" and most of the rest of the team is over 6'9" so the 6'0" guys looked so short!

Our women's game today was the most exciting bball game I have watched since the MD mens game vs Indiana last year that went to OT. We scored first today (a 3 pointer) and never had the lead again until 10 seconds left in the game, when we made 2 foul shots. We were behind by as much as 14 so it was quite an exciting, edge-of-your-seat type of game! The women have now beaten 6 top 25 teams and lost to 2. What an exciting season this will be...would be nice if our games would be on TV though!

I don't want to go back to work...I may take tomorrow off but I have a job for Tuesday already so I have to go back then anyway...I have enjoyed this vacation too much I guess...

I added the quote at the top of my page but I can't seem to figure out which place in the template is that. I can't change the color! It is so hard to read the quote if I can't change the color, I may delete it...any ideas?

I also added a link on the right to a page with redone war posters. I read an article this summer about Micah Wright's book and I immediately went to Border's and bought it. I enjoyed reading the book a lot and just found out he has a sequel, with more posters. Can't wait to get it! Check out the site--I know you will enjoy it!
